Energy Efficient Ventilation Systems
Air tightness and HRV Systems.
In order to get the most out of your HRV system, we suggest that homes should be as air tight as possible. Having an air tight home will not mean that there is insufficient air flow in your home, it means that the air flow can be controlled, which will also eliminate any unwanted drafts.
Building Regulations require that all homes will need to achieve a result of below 10 m³/hr/m². We suggest that all homes should attempt to meet the best practice of 3 m³/hr/m². With a level of 5 m³/hr/m² the HRV system will add to comfort levels and reduce heating costs.
If you are planning to install a HRV System into a existing home the system will only be efficient if you achieve good levels of air tightness and have good levels of insulation.
An air tightness test will highlight areas of leakage within your home and may also help you receive a higher BER Rating.
